Long term Nissan PR chief Jeff Kuhlman is saying sayonara to Nissan and Japan, and is heading home to America. At Nissan, Kuhlman is being replaced by Jonathan Adashek, an industry outsider.

Friends of Jeff knew that he had been homesick for quite some time. In Japan, he led a bachelor life in Yokohama with the family back in the U.S. A while ago, Jeff bought a house in the woodsier parts of Colorado, for which he pined.

Jeff served as the head of Global Communications at Nissan since 2011. Before that, he did a stint as the Chief Communications Officer at Audi of America. Before joining Audi in 2006, Jeff worked at General Motors for more than 20 years, famously as comms chief of GM’s luxury brands. A true gearhead, he started at the GM Powertrain Group in the Toledo.

Jeff’s departure from Yokohama appears to be imminent, it is only held up by waiting for the Japanese movers to wrap up everything. Jeff’s destination in the U.S. also is under wraps. He says he is “still evaluating a few options,” but as a good PR man, he most likely is saying half-truths.

Adashek comes from Microsoft, where he was the general manager of communications strategy. Prior to that, he was EVP of PR agency Edelman.
