Yesterday, Volkswagen congregated 20,000 workers in the huge brick-clad Halle 11 of the automaker’s sprawling Wolfsburg, Germany, plant. The closed-door meeting was called to give the workers a glimpse of the future their company is heading into. The workers were told that with more than a little blood, sweat, and tears, their leaders will take them into a bright future, if only because large parts of that future will be electrified. By 2020, a little more than three years from now, the Volkswagen brand alone wants to have 20 new electric vehicles in the market, workers were told.
