Lexus lifts kimono on RC sports coupe

When, late October, the Tokyo motor press corps received strictly embargoed news of the upcoming Lexus RC, a muted (we are in polite Japan) groan went through the assemblage of auto scribes. After all, the Lexus RC had been on the Internet for more than a year, and here the journalists were asked to behave as if they’ve never heard of the car. Today, at 13:30 local, the embargo lifted.rc_001-crp

To nobody’s surprise, Lexus will show a “production prototype” (read: very close to the real thing) of the Lexus RC sports coupe at the upcoming Tokyo Motor Show, which will run from November 20 to December 1.

The RC will be powered by a 3.5-liter gasoline engine, or by a 2.5-liter hybrid powertrain, if you want to reconcile your green leanings with sporty looks.

The most amazing part: Data on this and other upcoming models with later embargo dates, along with passworded access to pictures, have been in the hands of hundreds of journalists for many weeks, and the embargo wasn’t busted. Well, this is Japan, where a promise is still a promise.
